Our Methods of Generating Genius

This boys only programme uses University residential summer schools as a key plank to giving these students from age 12 a pathway to academic success. We concentrate on hands-on Science, examples of our course themes:

• The Building and programming of robots
• Forensic science
• Constructing FM radios from electronic junk
• Tissue culture – biotechnology
• Green Technology
• Making fruit flavoured yogurts

Teaching Community: We see ourselves as a centre of excellence, where we have developed cutting-edge teaching methods and resources with proven success with inner-city children. We disseminate this resource by inviting teachers to our summer camps and providing training/workshops to schools and colleges

Benefits to Corporations:

• There is a link in supporting the local community.
• We use company workers as judges on our panels and they also give career and inspirational talks.
• Provide a real cadre of new professionals into the finance and science /medical sector
• Prepare students for college and the workforce
• Improve access to higher education for inner-city children

Volunteerism and role models

We have had a close connection to the Christian Boys Home in Kingston, where GG students have become teaching mentors to younger students and also done volunteer activities such as painting the facility.

Social life

We are conscious that we need to rid Science of its false nerd image. Our boys are very confident because they have been exposed to high level science and technology. They are also encouraged to have fun. They learn how to live together in a University campus context, this has meant that they have quickly matured and are ahead of their peers.
