The Generating Genius Programme
Generating Genius is a charity with a mission to encourage and develop under-privileged talented students from diverse backgrounds and have them aspire to professions in the various fields of scientific endeavour such as engineering, medicine, bio-technology, life sciences etc. We have a particular mission to seek out male talent in poor rural areas and the inner-city. Our plan is to find this talent and nuture these boys over 3 to 4 years creating a pathway into the Sciences and Business.

Program need
Too many Jamaican schools lack basic labs and qualified science teachers. There is a real need to support schools by mobilizing resources and techniques to meet their specific needs.
UWI has seen a significant fall in students applying to do science subjects - compared to Singapore which has seen a doubling of students. We are in danger of being left behind!
At UWI Mona campus in 2005/06 there was a intake of 10,840 students
7,600 female
3,240 male
2005 CXC exams - females did bettter in 13 of the 17 subjects examined. There is a particular need to address the low academic performance of boys
Jamaica’s minister of Technology has highlighted the need to invest in High tech and bio-technology industries and skills. The forecasts point to a downsized market for agriculture and tourism. If the economy does not make this shift alongside education there is a real danger of deep social unrest.
